Margie
Drake's Bio
Margie
Drake is a Colorado native who has lived in Longmont for the last 30 years.
Upon seeing her first piece of fused glass in the early 1980’s she realized
that this was her medium.
However she was not able to afford the equipment and
supplies until 2004, when her patron and partner JJ Fenstermaker set up a
studio for her. The kiln she uses is large enough to accommodate her love of
larger pieces of art glass.
Margie also creates pendants for jewelry, and colorful
glass cabochons. These are popular with other artists who use them in mosaics,
wire wrapping, and sculptural pieces.
Margie uses many different colors of glass in her work,
from simple black and white to dichroic - her favorite.
Originally developed for the space program, dichroic
glass adds a powerful and colorful ‘kick’ to Margie’s pieces. She loves
her medium and enjoys creating bowls, window hangings, and plates from glass
and metal.

Along with fused glass Margie also pursues beading,
jewelry making, crocheting, knitting, and decoupage.
Margie is inspired by her years of quilting and sewing,
and finds daily inspiration in her garden and aquariums.
Additionally Margie and JJ are supporters of the Longmont
Humane Society, and are active in the Humane Society’s foster
pet program.
MadMargie’s fused glass is
available for purchase at select galleries including Bead
